Introduction

This analysis of the MSI GeForce 2 MX400 will likely be our sole and unique review of the GeForce 2 MX400 graphics platform.

The MX400 differs from its GeForce 2 siblings primarily in that its core oscillates at a mere 200MHz, much like the GeForce 2 GTS, and contrary to the GeForce 2 Ultra, which clocks-in at 250MHz. The MX400's memory bandwidth is also a lower 2.5GB/sec, as opposed to the GTS' 5.2GB/sec, and the 7.36GB/sec of the GeForce 2 Ultra.

Obviously, this card is situated a few steps back from the bleeding edge of graphics technology, and is targeted towards the low-end of the market.

Because the MX400 is only equipped with only 32MB of DDR memory, we immediately decided to give it a hand and coupled it with our most powerful test system in order to allow it to save face in front of its peers. Thus, the MX400 met our AMD Athlon XP 1900+, and we proceeded to compare it with others of its kind; namely the GeForce 2 GTS, the Hercules 4500 Kyro II, and the GeForce 3.
