Tekram DC-390U2W
PCI Ultra 2 SCSI HDD controller
The tests results
The tests
In order to get a good idea of the performance offered by the DC-390U2W, I compared its against my existing system, using a 9.1GB Quantum Fireball KA. Below, you can see the results of the tests.

As you can see, according to HD Tach 2.60, there is only a small difference in performance between the two devices. By all appearances, HD Tach isn't well adapted to properly measure the performance of an external device...

Winstone99 Business Winmark
In order to see what all this means, I compared results with the Winstone99 Buisness Winmark test, in order to see wether there was any notable differences between the two. The results are featured below:
According to this test, there are no doubts. In the application simulations, the Winstone99 Business Winmark benchmark shows a decided boost fo the Ultra 2 SCSI interface over the ATA66 device.
Conclusions
Tekram's DC390U2W offers some very interesting performance. Its easy implementation, stable operation, and interesting performance add up to an interesting alternative for those seeking to abandon IDE for the brighter shores of Ultra 2 SCSI, without needing to invest in a dual-processor motherboard.
